February Childrens Dental Health Month

Staying Cavity Free – Healthy Dental Habits for Kids

It’s never too early to begin taking care of your children’s smiles.  Maintaining good oral hygiene will allow dentists to detect and prevent any problems such as cavities, toothaches, tooth decay and other infections. Tooth decay is very common among children, so it’s especially important to take good care of your child’s first teeth to ensure the healthy growth of their adult teeth.

Examples of Great Dental Habits:

  • Brushing & flossing teeth twice day, especially after evening meals
  • Using fluoride toothpaste when brushing teeth
  • Brushing teeth for 2 minutes
  • Avoiding high fructose corn syrup drinks & sodas
  • Visiting your dentist twice a year for dental cleanings

Rewards for Cavity Free Smiles

At Hospitality Dental, kids are rewarded for demonstrating their great dental habits. The Buddy Brush Program is a great way to keep children ages 1-12 motivated to stay cavity free. Children can earn points for good dental hygiene, get rewards at different prize levels and be entered to win larger prizes like an iPad or Bicycle!

This month, during Children’s Dental Health Month, every child who visits gets 10 Pineapple Points on their rewards card!

Cavity Prevention Options

It’s hard to stay away from sugary drinks and sodas, so Hospitality Dental offers great preventative options to keep children cavity & tooth decay free. Sealants are a plastic cover placed on the surface of the back teeth that protects tooth enamel from plaque. Parents should consider sealants to be applied to their children’s premolars and molars to prevent any possible decay and cavities. Sealants are a proven safe and effective procedure for our patients. Most cavities in children occur in the narrow parts of the teeth where food may be hard to clean, so the sealant acts like a barrier in these hard to clean places to effectively prevent cavities and tooth decay.  Visit the California Dental Association for more information on the importance of Sealants, and why they are an appropriate treatment for you and your children.
